Regional MDS/Clinical Reimbursement Consultant (MDS/Care Plan Consultant) will consult with facilities in all facets of clinical reimbursement practice through medical record review, on site observation, and phone consultation and will provide consultant services consistent with established standards of practice and federal and state requirements.
Regional MDS/Clinical Reimbursement Consultant (MDS/Care Plan Consultant) Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
  • Consult with facility on an as needed basis through visits, phone calls, off site record review and response to requests from facility leadership
  • Provide consultation during weekly Utilization Review meetings at assigned facilities
  • Provide on site consultation as needed during regulatory audits
  • Consult with facility as needed on topics such as program development, MDS coding, documentation practices, five star ratings, competency evaluation and staff education needs
  • Consult as needed in matters of development of Clinical Staff, including MDS team, Restorative Nurses, Unit Managers and PCAs as related to reimbursement.
  • Participate as needed in the recruitment, selection, onboarding and orientation of MDS Coordinators.
  • Consult on and guide facility leadership on key initiatives such as quality improvement, and changes in reimbursement regulations and requirements
  • Monitor timely completion of MDS assessments through EMR review and audits.
  • Assist with collection of records for any additional development request
  • Other duties as assigned
Regional MDS/Clinical Reimbursement Consultant (MDS/Care Plan Consultant) Must Have:
  • Minimum of Associate Degree in Nursing
  • BSN/MSN preferred
  • 3-5 years of multi facility consulting experienced preferred but not required, depending on the candidate
  • Good technology skills and experience with basic business software
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of EMR systems or ability to adopt with sufficient orientation
  • Knowledge of state specific regulations and guidelines
